Project Description
New Biomedical research centre which opened in 2016. The Francis Crick Institute is a partnership between a conglomerate of London research universities, the Medical Research Council, Cancer Research UK, University College London Hospital and the Wellcome Trust.
The project provided 970,000 sq. ft. of floor area consisting of Grade A office space, laboratories and communal areas for interaction. One-third of the building is even underground with the deepest parts of the building lying at 17m below ground.
The institute now houses 1,500 scientists and brings together biologists, chemists, physicists, engineers, computer scientists and mathematicians for the improvement of human health.
The Francis Crick Institute was devised to operate as both a complex laboratory as well as a place for collaboration and exchange, acknowledging that research is as much about interaction as it is about lab work.
