Project Description

Real PM is working with Stanhope on the demolition of St Helen’s Tower. In its place, Stanhope is developing 1 Undershaft, a new 74-storey tower with Europe’s highest open public-viewing space on the top floor. The new building will be the tallest building in the UK alongside the Shard at around 310m in height. The segmented tower structure permits a more sustainable building with enhanced green spaces.

The architect, Eric Parry, said the building has been designed to ‘provide a series of urban horizons; street level, elevated public garden, amenity floors, and the London Museum classrooms and viewing gallery at the apex of the building.’ Once finished, the building will offer 13% of the City of London’s required office space as laid out in the City Plan 2040.

Real PM’s Role

Real PM is currently undertaking the Contract Administration and Programming Support services for the soft strip, asbestos removal and complex Hard Demolition works to the ground level of the St Helens Tower. Real PM have provided a detailed review of the enabling and infrastructure works, construction and logistics, which was complete with buildability input. Real PM produced a Construction & Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) for the scheme’s planning application. The CEMP was supported by the preparation of a construction vehicle assessment.
